Game Discussion and Questions / New Stuff?
« on: December 02, 2014, 11:54:25 AM »
Hey, I was just wondering if any new developments have come about over the Summer and if it's possible for some sneaky screenshots. :)

Thanks!

Game Discussion and Questions / Any new updates?
« on: May 29, 2014, 08:13:50 AM »
It's been a while since I posted on the forums although I've been checking back almost everyday.
As Cody said on the previous thread a while back you guys had some new updates to show for this Summer when are these expected to be shown? I'm only asking because I'm really excited about the game and can't wait to play.

Anyhow, best of luck to the developers with Thornefall and anything else they have going on in their lives.

Game Discussion and Questions / Removing the Spam and Building Hype
« on: April 07, 2014, 03:12:43 PM »
So as we can see the forums are getting over run by spam, I've been visiting back almost everyday in hope of a new post that's not filled with  random gibberish. Perhaps if the developers could visit weekly and clear the spam from the forums and maybe create a short post or a Dev Blog.

What are your current ideas for promoting the game?
Crowd funding, paid advertisements, simple word of mouth?
The game even in it's current state looks fantastic and it would be nice if we could get a regular community going here on the forums.
Perhaps you could build hype and have a small donation system just like a certain remake of a certain game had, in which you'd donate $2+ for Pre-Alpha access, I certainly would.

Anyway, if any of the Developers happen to see this I wish you all the best of luck in whatever you're currently doing as I know you have exams and other such things and best of luck developing Thornefall and I'll always be keeping track of the progress.

Game Discussion and Questions / Rather Quiet...
« on: February 13, 2014, 08:14:06 AM »
The forum has gone really quiet, it was only a few weeks ago that we where getting daily visitors maybe 5-10 different registered users who came on to check the forums but now it's myself and maybe 2 others on a good day.

The developers are really quiet and I have seen Ben visit the forums once or twice in the past month which gives me hope that the developers are possibly still working on the game and have just gone quiet on the forums. It would be nice to have a developer post every few days or even a post saying where they're up to on the development side of things even if they've been taking a break. It's just a small thing such as a post from a developer that can give a lot of hope to the players to stick around for longer.

Thank you and best of luck to the developers. :)
I'm always going to be visiting the forums daily, haha.

Game Discussion and Questions / Auction House
« on: January 26, 2014, 12:50:01 PM »
To the developers, will an In game Auction House be implemented into the game where players can sell items and others can buy them etc.

To the players, what are your thoughts on an In game Auction House?
Personally I'll have to say I would rather not have an action house In-game due to the fact groups of players can abuse such systems although there can be benefits to the use of an auction house. It has it's pros and cons I suppose.

Suggestions / My Thread of Suggestions
« on: January 26, 2014, 11:33:27 AM »
This is my thread of suggestions for Thornefall, I'm really excited about this game and would certainly like to help out with my ideas.
So I'll be posting ideas I have on this thread. :)

None of these suggestions are guaranteed to make it into the game, they're just player made suggestions (By myself) for the developers of Thornefall.

GAME SUGGESTIONS

Chats, Clans and Parties
Chats
This will be a simple chat system based to allow one player to create their own chat room in which other players can join whenever they wish. This will add much more to the social aspect of the game and allow the community to bond much more and find new friends through popular player's chats.

Clans
As in most games Clans exist, this will allow groups of players to interact and team up against other clans etc.
Different 'battle' systems could be implemented such as a Clan war in which a clan member of a specific rank can invite a certain amount of players from their clan to queue in a Clan war battle, these battles would be instanced etc. I will add more later on about Clan warring later on.

Parties
Parties would be used to allow players to group quest and enjoy group bossing sharing loot and fight their way through instanced dungeons together and share loot and XP.

Achievement Items
For example a cape, this would be achieved for such things as achieving the maxed level of a skill, getting 'X' amount of kills in a Minigame or during PvP.

Dungeons
The Dungeon
Dungeons will allow players to fight their way through intense dungeon battles and face-up to difficult boss battles at the end of such dungeon. Dungeons can be a great method of gaining XP through the use of combat and skills.
Each dungeon will be instanced so players can either Solo dungeons or with a party of friends or players similar to their level.

Dungeon Queuing
A queuing system which matches players up with other players of a similar level to battle through Dungeons together.

Clan Warring
This allows groups of players in the same clan to battle against other clans in a large arena.
A clan member of a specific rank can initiate a sub-party to invite a certain amount of clan members (Dependant on which battle they select... 5v5, 10v10, 15v15, 20v20 etc) once the number of members are met the clan war will initiate in an all out battle to the death although it's not all about combat! Players with high skill levels will be able to build forts and increase the forts defence dependent on the players level in say for example 'Construction'...

The aim of Clan wars is to capture the other clans banner and return it to their base.
This will be a safe Minigame thus no items will be lost upon death.

In-game Auctions House
Today's gamers don't want to bother with yelling "Selling armour, 5000 Coins".
People want to be able to go straight to one place in which they can put their items in and basically trade with every player around the world. This maybe a large development task and I certainly don't know how it will work in the early economy of the game as the economy of games in their early stages can be very fragile.

To be honest I'm not too bothered with standing for a while and selling my items to players directly although this could be a big put off for the game. It needs to be easily accessible and I guess it will be a main 'Hub' for most players.
Almost all of today's MMO's have Auction House systems as it just allows the game to move faster I think everyone can remember a time when they've been trying to directly sell items to a player and they've been unable to, it's just frustrating for you especially if you've made a large investment in getting those items in the first place.

Suggestions / Balanced Combat
« on: January 26, 2014, 05:34:36 AM »
As in most MMO's I'm guessing the main 3 classes will apply to Thornefall: Melee, Ranger, Mage.

Some games have an overall combat level such as World of Warcraft and GW2 instead of separating the different sections of your combat in which games such as Runescape do.

So, my suggestion is this: In Runescape you have Attack, Strength, Defence... Range and Mage.
Attack lends itself only to Melee, Strength is Melee and Range and Mage are their own things and Defence belongs to all three.
This is unbalanced as Melee has 3 skills whilst the others only use 2.

If you are to go down this route which I suppose you are I propose instead of using 'Attack' use something such as 'Accuracy', 'Dexterity', 'Sleight of Hand'. This would lend itself to all 3 classes, instead of Strength use 'Melee' and then you have 'Range' and 'Mage'.

This means each class has the following...
Melee
Main skill: Melee
Others: Accuracy and Defence

Ranger
Main skill: Range
Others: Accuracy and Defence

Mage
Main skill: Magic
Others: Accuracy and Defence

Accuracy will determine how often you hit with either class, of course the higher your Accuracy level the more often you will hit.

Melee, Range and Magic determine how high you will hit, this also depends on your opponents Defence level.

Defence basically determines what kind of hits you can take, if you have 1 defence but your opponent has 50 Melee, you're most likely to lose the battle unless you have 99 Range & Accuracy with high health points and a fair amount of food.

Website Feedback / Forum Sections
« on: January 26, 2014, 04:21:23 AM »
I think it's pretty clear that the forum is almost empty, a lot of people visit the forums on a regular basis although never post. So I propose adding newer forum sections that don't limit discussion to just the game, sections such as Forum Games, Off-topic discussion etc.

It'd also be nice to have 'Developer Diaries' so players can be confident the game is making progress and the developers have certainly not given up. :)

Development needs to be more open to the community even if progress on development is paused for a short period of time it should be announced, don't keep the players completely in the dark like many game development companies do, it can drive many players away for example Transformers Universe which for around 3 years barely any information on the game has been released which has only angered it's community and severely damaged it's reputation.

I'll be checking back on the forums daily and would love to be able to post a lot more and have a larger community involved in the early stages of the game.

Game Discussion and Questions / Game Development
« on: January 25, 2014, 02:55:53 PM »
Hey, I very recently discovered this project and am very intrigued and excited about the development of the game although it doesn't seem like much is currently going on from our point of view. The forums haven't been posted on since last year apart from a spam post which was posted a few days ago.

It'd be nice to see some new videos and screenshots of the development of the game.
I think it's necessary to begin building somewhat of a community as it's always nice to build up a bit of hype prior to the release of a game so on day one it's not filled with empty server.

The current progress looks fantastic and I hope it's even further along now, I hope we can get to see some more of the game and I'll definitely be sticking around and following these forums. :)

Best of luck to the game developers!
