Game Discussion and Questions / New Stuff?
« on: December 02, 2014, 11:54:25 AM »
Hey, I was just wondering if any new developments have come about over the Summer and if it's possible for some sneaky screenshots. :)

Game Discussion and Questions / Any new updates?
« on: May 29, 2014, 08:13:50 AM »
It's been a while since I posted on the forums although I've been checking back almost everyday.
As Cody said on the previous thread a while back you guys had some new updates to show for this Summer when are these expected to be shown? I'm only asking because I'm really excited about the game and can't wait to play.

Anyhow, best of luck to the developers with Thornefall and anything else they have going on in their lives.

Thanks for the reply Cody!
I agree with the early Kickstarting you should do it when you think the game is ready and you have enough content to show off. :)

Excited to see the new updates this Summer and can't wait till the release/Alpha/BETA testing.
Best of luck again whilst you're developing!

Game Discussion and Questions / Removing the Spam and Building Hype
« on: April 07, 2014, 03:12:43 PM »
So as we can see the forums are getting over run by spam, I've been visiting back almost everyday in hope of a new post that's not filled with  random gibberish. Perhaps if the developers could visit weekly and clear the spam from the forums and maybe create a short post or a Dev Blog.

What are your current ideas for promoting the game?
Crowd funding, paid advertisements, simple word of mouth?
The game even in it's current state looks fantastic and it would be nice if we could get a regular community going here on the forums.
Perhaps you could build hype and have a small donation system just like a certain remake of a certain game had, in which you'd donate $2+ for Pre-Alpha access, I certainly would.

Anyway, if any of the Developers happen to see this I wish you all the best of luck in whatever you're currently doing as I know you have exams and other such things and best of luck developing Thornefall and I'll always be keeping track of the progress.

Game Discussion and Questions / Re: Rather Quiet...

The project is not dead! We just get really swamped during our semesters  :-\ we should have a lot to show this summer!

Wooh! That's amazing to hear thank you sooo much for responding. :)
Really hyped now and can't wait for the summer, best of luck to you in your studies. :D

Game Discussion and Questions / Rather Quiet...
« on: February 13, 2014, 08:14:06 AM »
The forum has gone really quiet, it was only a few weeks ago that we where getting daily visitors maybe 5-10 different registered users who came on to check the forums but now it's myself and maybe 2 others on a good day.

The developers are really quiet and I have seen Ben visit the forums once or twice in the past month which gives me hope that the developers are possibly still working on the game and have just gone quiet on the forums. It would be nice to have a developer post every few days or even a post saying where they're up to on the development side of things even if they've been taking a break. It's just a small thing such as a post from a developer that can give a lot of hope to the players to stick around for longer.

Thank you and best of luck to the developers. :)
I'm always going to be visiting the forums daily, haha.

Suggestions / Re: Balanced Combat
« on: February 02, 2014, 11:37:47 AM »
So, what you're saying is:

  • Rename "Strength" to "Melee".
  • "Attack" and "Defence" will be used for Magic, Ranged, and Melee. - Not just Melee.

Okay, good. I agree. I also think "Attack" should be renamed to "Agility". And this new "Agility" skill should help with all three combat styles (Melee, Ranged, and Magic) but also work like the Agility skill in RuneScape.

Exactly, renaming "Attack" to "Agility" sounds like a good idea to me that would work rather well. :)

Suggestions / Re: W13's List of Suggestions
« on: February 02, 2014, 08:04:07 AM »
I agree with pretty much everything here, some excellent suggestions especially about setting the game apart from Runescape for legal reasons.

The idea for Kickstarter is excellent and as you said the game has perfect potential for making a good amount of cash from crowd funding.

Some great suggestions and I hope the developers take a lot of this into accounts. :)

Game Discussion and Questions / Re: Skills?
« on: February 01, 2014, 07:31:03 AM »
The beauty of skills is not based on what skills are available. You can't move away from a dungeons and dragons type game because that's what everybody wants. Combat skills, Mining, Fishing, Woodcutting will always be there, it's just how they are implemented that is going to make this game unique.

All skills should take on a more realistic approach to keep the players interested. Instead of having to sit there and become bored fishing, you should be required to be a little more active. Consistently checking your bait or pulling up lobster cages. Maybe you can choose when you want your lobster cage to come back up. I don't know because I am just brain storming as I type.

That's the thing about runescape that has consistently made me leave the game. It's just not fun to sit and wait for your inventory to fill up.

This exactly, ideas such as being able to purchase boats to fish off which perhaps you can take friends out on.
The better your boat the more chance you have of catching bigger fish and more fish.

Lobster catching should be much more realistic, no one goes in shallow water and shakes a lobster cage and catches a lobster after 10 seconds. Haha. You should be able to throw Lobster cages over the side of your boat and you have to continuously check if you've caught a Lobster or perhaps even 2 Lobsters if you get lucky. Haha. Bigger boats can use more Lobster cages obviously.

You should also be able to fish off peers and such but this would be less experience than if you owned your own boat etc.

Things like this is what makes a game special. :)

Game Discussion and Questions / Re: Game platform & Engine
« on: January 29, 2014, 01:14:25 AM »
First off, I'd like to say the game is looking amazing and full of potential.

Secondly: Out of curiosity, will the game be written on the Java platform (For cross operating system compatibility & Browser player) and is it written from a library such as OpenGL or DirectX?

Unfortunately the developers haven't disclosed any of this information as of yet, I'm sure when the time comes we'll find out. :)

Is there a download link? Even if it is insanely buggy, I would like to play it/test it and make some videos.

Or an ETA on the beta?

The game is currently under development but hopefully we should be able to see a BETA test coming soon. (Fingers crossed)

Game Discussion and Questions / Re: Auction House
« on: January 27, 2014, 07:58:25 AM »
I'm against having an auction house. Many people will abuse this system, especially large clans. Take RuneScape's Grand Exchange for example. Merchanting clans buy out a few items to make their prices rise. They dump the items once they reach their peak, or whoever grows impatient first. This will cause havoc on the game's economy, just like it currently is on RS. Even World of Warcraft has this problem. The only way this system can work properly if it's monitored and has restrictions, which in my opinion, would be a waste of time and bad for the game overall. The developers could spend their time on more important things and restrictions aren't fun, they ruin the game's immersion.

I suggest creating a few worlds/servers that are specifically for buying/selling items, merchant worlds so to speak. These world's would have a unique map where players may trade without restrictions and set up their player-owned stands (concept). The player-owned stands feature would benefit players who don't want to wait around for their items to sell. They can simply set one up and leave the world, or log off completely. The purpose of this would be that players would have to socially interact and/or search for the items they need. This would effectively cut down on the players that buy an unreasonable amount of items just to manipulate and profit off of them. Now, to make trading/searching a smooth process.. the map could have specific locations where specific types of items could be sold. A lumberyard area to sell wood, a harbor to sell food, etc.

Note: I have nothing against players who wish to merchant. I only fear that  players will take advantage of an automated system, such as an auction house, and ruin the experience for everyone else.

Just my 2 cents.

Feel free to criticize.

This is a very good concept, perhaps to set up one of these stalls the player has to pay 10% tax on the price you're selling your items at thus creating the possibility of a small gold sink. :)

I 100% agree with you about the Auction house, it can certainly ruin the games economy to quite an extent and perhaps make the game far too easy.

Game Discussion and Questions / Re: Combat System
« on: January 26, 2014, 11:48:30 PM »
I'm guessing it's going to be very much like Runescape 2's hit-and-wait based combat system.
From the Trailer it seems that way.

I find this to be a good thing. The simplicity of it makes the game charming.

Very much agreed.

Game Discussion and Questions / Auction House
« on: January 26, 2014, 12:50:01 PM »
To the developers, will an In game Auction House be implemented into the game where players can sell items and others can buy them etc.

To the players, what are your thoughts on an In game Auction House?
Personally I'll have to say I would rather not have an action house In-game due to the fact groups of players can abuse such systems although there can be benefits to the use of an auction house. It has it's pros and cons I suppose.
