We are making progress as I make this post. If all goes well we will have something big to show within the next two months!

Are they still even developing it? :/
Absolutely, keep your eyes peeled within the next two months :)

Bold colored objects and click based movement are probably the only similarities. Both existing in other games (TF2, Diablo) and are not unique to RuneScape.  All assets are ours and we were after a simplistic art style from the start. We can understand how it might seem a little 'too' similar... but there are only so many ways to make a brick wall, for example.  We're attempting to differentiate in every way we can in our next batch of updates.

We have no plans to clone any existing games. We are influenced by our positive experiences with games we've played in the past, though.

Hey there,

We've noticed this too and we will be fixing it. Just haven't got around to it just yet!

Suggestions / Re: W13's List of Suggestions

1. Ah, does Thornefall not make you wonder what a Thorne is? Perhaps it's already been written and detailed in our lore, which is not ready to be disclosed ;) and P.S. We had it before Titanfall!

2. Not in the position to answer this. But I'm going to assume by our goals this is not in our plans right now.

3. They are ours, the style of bold colored low-detail objects does not belong to anyone. While we were influenced by the style, we plan to expand on it with our engine tech in the future.

4. Too early

As for the rest: these were read over and will be considered during our next design phase, its too early to make definite comments on these.  Though I will say most of what you have suggested we are already aware of and are planning for.

And yes, the project is serious :)

It will be very open, do not worry. We just do not have anything to show at the moment!

Kick-starting too soon is one of the worst things we can do, as there is a very high chance it will be unsuccessful. We're sorry for the lack of updates lately, but we are still very serious about Thornefall.

The problem is we have to work in very short (but productive) bursts every few months. This should hopefully only last one more year, our schedules should begin to clear by then and Thornefall should return to the front seat. With that said we should have some stuff to show this upcoming summer.

can we get a december update? i really want to see this take off
We should have something new to show by the end of December. The project has not been abandoned, we're just busy during our semesters. We get a lot done during breaks and summers and all of our focus right now is getting the game to be ready to accept early testing groups.

I've cleaned it up. We're very busy at the moment but we will have some stuff to show soon. Please remember alot of us are in college so progress is made in short bursts between breaks throughout the year.

Suggestions / Re: How will experience be gained? how will pvp work?
« on: August 15, 2013, 05:31:12 PM »
Hi AxeHeadSlam,

That's an interesting suggestion. Do not worry, we will be making sure PvE is accessible without any interference from PvP (if it isn't initiated by some means, i.e. a duel request possibly).

Your zoning idea is neat, but there is also not much to comment on at this point. Once players get a real feel for PvP in beta we hope we can all come to an agreement on the type of system to implement so we can get it in early. Should we do a kingdom type "affiliation" system like you described it could affect the game drastically (especially in lore). We'd like to have a bigger community before considering something like this to make sure it is supported by most players. It is doable nonetheless!

Thanks!

Videos / Development Video 2: Thornefall Preview
« on: August 08, 2013, 01:10:02 PM »
Some of you have been asking for gameplay and we've also been wanting to show a bit more so our community can get a "feel" for how the game will play.  We also used the time between these clips to show hints of a section of our world map and also to sum up the community aspect of Thornefall.

Please note many things in this video are not final, do not view this as the final product.

Well i was thinking that pvp can occur any where and can only happen if the other player you are fighting is around the same skill level as you..there maybe could be towns where npcs like guards will come attack you if you start fighting another player in order to keep the town pvp free, though if a player wanted they could still try to fight another player there, though they risk the guards coming after them. But as you said a dangerous duel can be with anyone regardless of skill levels but both have to agree through a duel screen before battle.

Seems a bit risky if players are losing their items, doesn't it? It may be frustrating for players to do non-pvp content. The duel system idea would work though, especially because it has to be initiated by two willing players.

Game Discussion and Questions / Re: Open Beta
« on: July 21, 2013, 08:32:58 PM »
It looks like you have invested a lot of time already into the game, just wondering why you will hold back on releasing a beta on the thoughts pretaining to whether or not the game will have any interest from players or not. I'm guessing the thornefall still needs game content like skills and quests to be added before release?
Correct, the game is currently in pre-alpha meaning many things are either extremely buggy or not implemented yet. We don't exactly intend to "hold back" on beta, we just need to get it to a playable state with a decently sized region containing content to test, which is currently being planned.
